Helga Haiman is a 25-year-old photography and film artist originally from Budapest. She currently lives in London and works in filmmaking. She also graduated in England in 2023 with a degree in Film and Literature. She later pursued a Master's degree in Photography at the Accademia di Belle Arti Bologna.
She held her first solo exhibition, I am neither here, nor there at Aurora Budapest, 2022, in collaboration with curator Léna Hajdu. The photographic series is a documentary exploration of the separation of the iconic dance duo Réka Rácz and Levente Lukács, depicting their collaboration and eventual parting across four sections. The visual material was accompanied by original poems written specifically for the exhibition by Péter Molnár, the poetry editor of the Oxford Review of Books. Over 200 people attended the opening, with at least as many participating in subsequent events. Following this, a photobook was created from the material, which was available for purchase at Aurora.
In her work, Helga continuously strives for literary expression and the precise depiction of interpersonal emotions. Her pieces are invariably interdisciplinary, weaving narrative threads that form a cohesive unit across multiple media. She actively seeks collaboration, drawing on her ongoing involvement in the film industry. She has participated as a crew member at several prestigious film festivals, including Venice, Cannes, and Locarno. In her current exhibition, her work takes a new direction as she recounts the most personal experience of her life through the lens of nature: walking 1,100 kilometres across three countries.
