URBAN FETISH
The Urban Fetish series focuses on the problem of self-expression through clothes. It is a collection of my depictions of Reka Racz’s
contemporary dance performances. We have been collaborating since 2019. Throughout the years we have done several projects
together where we experiment with the synergy of the two arts: photography and dance.
The pictures were exhibited in Leamington Spa, United Kingdom, in 2023 at Æ Kollektivität
“Okay, I need to get ready... no idea what I wanna wear; Am I feeling classy, bohemian, or street vibes today? I wanna match the streets; a cathartic outfit; a holistic outfit... these are just clothes, who cares? Purple doesn’t go with red, no I can’t wear these together, Jesus; etc.” Most of these thoughts cross one’s mind in the morning. 10 to 30 minutes of the day wasted on the same thoughts. Every. Single. Day. Is it a problem? No, it is satisfying. A fetish. The urban fetish. I am what I’m wearing.
I’m not a fan of clothes. I never know what to wear. I have no idea how to express myself through clothing. Every time I buy something it’s either an impulse or I just want to copy some cool artist’s style. It’s a bit ridiculous because I work in art and I am studying aesthetics. Still, fashion remains a mystery for me; What style makes me look like the person I imagine myself to be? What do trends and fast fashion do to us? Why does a brand make one more stylish?
For me, these questions remain unanswered. My main method of choosing an outfit became the one where I closed my eyes and randomly picked clothes from my wardrobe. Then comes the torture of looking into the mirror and deciding if it fits my mood or not.

This collection is a set of experimental photos that were made just for fun. However, Reka Racz’s style always astonishingly matches the spaces she steps into. These fortunate coincidences can’t help us but wonder (thought it would be cool to use the phrase from Sex and The City here) if the city and its people’s symbiosis is really a thing.
A phenomenon of beauty; of satisfaction. The city is a fashion show by its very presence. The streets are the wild grounds for us to
show that self-impression that we are longing to reveal to the world. It is beautiful. This beauty is the urban fetish.
